First of all, many thanks and congratulations to the 5 new volunteer contributors: Ivi104, Matrix, obamwonyi, Ahonc and Abhii5599. Each of them got their first patch merged in MediaWiki core, extensions or services deployed in Wikimedia production during the month of September! 

==Updates to Wikimedia’s authentication system: Single User Login phase 3==

Single User Login, the system which allows users to fill out the login form on one Wikimedia site and get logged in on all others at the same time, has been under increasing strain in the last few years as browsers have increasingly restricted the ways in which websites on different domains can exchange information, to prevent large-scale user tracking. 

The MediaWiki Platform team has been working on updating our authentication system to be more compatible with these new browser requirements by moving all login and signup forms to a dedicated domain. The project, dubbed SUL3 (phase 1 was centralizing the user database and the first creation of global logins in 2008, phase 2 was centralizing session cookies and introduction of unique account names in 2013–15), is tracked in [[Phab:T348388|T348388]] and expected to finish later this year.

Besides being more in line with how browser vendors expect cross-domain authentication to work, these changes will also make Wikimedia sites more friendly to password managers, make it harder to steal passwords via hacked user scripts, and maybe pave the way before a wider rollout of WebAuthn, an advanced security feature which allows the use of physical devices such as USB tokens or fingerprint readers as second factors during login. The changes should be mostly invisible to users, other than the browser showing a different URL during login.

Internally, the way individual wikis interact with the central authentication system will become more standard, using the remote identity provider support built into MediaWiki’s authentication framework.

This work is part of our annual plan goal to improve the sustainability of the MediaWiki platform ([[m:Wikimedia_Foundation_Annual_Plan/2024-2025/Product_&_Technology_OKRs#Key_Results|WE5.1]]). The initiative also required us to enable more people to work on the authentication stack (MediaWiki Core AuthManager, CentralAuth & Co) and will come with beneficial side effects such as improved test coverage and monitoring, which in return makes it easier to maintain the authentication infrastructure on the way forward. We will share more about this work in the coming weeks and months as we begin to prepare for the rollout to production wikis.

==Simplify feature development in MediaWiki platform: Two reports published==

In the [[MediaWiki_Product_Insights/Reports/August_2024|last Insights email]] we shared about our explorations to simplify feature development in the MediaWiki platform ([[MediaWiki_Product_Insights/Artifacts/KR_5.2:_Simplify_feature_development|WE5.2]]). In the first quarter, we set out to better understand how developers are interacting with the platform from two perspectives: 1) Examine how core mechanisms support extensions and where those entry points can be improved (hook survey), and 2) Identify existing platform feature(s) that would benefit the most from directly redesigning the architecture to enable simpler and more sustainable feature development (notifications architecture). 

* Hook survey ([[MediaWiki_Product_Insights/Artifacts/KR_5.2:_Simplify_feature_development/5.2.1:Hook_Survey|report]]): We analyzed 76 (out of 464) hook definitions and 165 (of 1408) hook handler implementations used by MediaWiki extensions deployed on Wikimedia sites. Based on the survey data we identified several opportunities for exploration and evolution. Our first experiment in this space will focus on introducing a new Domain Event and Listener pattern into the platform, to enable a simplified visibility into system state changes. We also believe this pattern will enable better flexibility for extension interfaces, as well as better boundaries between core components by removing the complexity of needing to know what other areas of code need to be informed about changes. * Notifications architecture ([[MediaWiki_Product_Insights/Artifacts/KR_5.2:_Simplify_feature_development/Hypothesis_5.2.2:_Notifications_platform_in_core|report]]): We identified the Notifications feature set as an opportunity to focus and scope the work to simplify feature development in the MediaWiki platform, because it contains several antipatterns and pain points that we believe can be addressed through improved modularity and defining simplified, use-case centric interfaces. The exploration contained a combination of high-level design work intended to define a unified notification system, paired with deep diving existing capabilities spread across the Echo extension and ENotif component in MediaWiki core. This resulted in a design proposal which we will continue to explore through experimentation and proof of concept work as a next step. ==Project snapshots: Parsoid Read Views deployed to Wikivoyages, MathML rollout and Wikitech major milestones met==

==Outlook: Improving API documentation sustainability==

We are kicking off work on [https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/profile/7456/ improving API documentation sustainability]. This intervention will introduce three main benefits: 1) automatically generate OpenAPI specifications for all of the MediaWiki endpoints so that we can adopt industry standard tooling, 2) leverage the generated specs for automated endpoint validation to ensure documentation consistency and prevent accidental breaking changes, and 3) automatically translate the generated specs so that our documentation is more accessible for the global developer community. By adopting automatically generated API documentation using standard, open source [https://swagger.io/specification/ OpenAPI specifications], we can improve the sustainability for API producers while increasing stability for API consumers. This approach reduces reliance on manual maintenance for API documentation pages and ensures that the documented API responses always match the actual behavior of the underlying endpoints by unlocking automated validation and error handling. This will prevent accidental breaking changes from entering the Wikimedia developer ecosystem, improving platform stability and reducing disruption for API users. Additionally, the generated specs can be used to automatically enable interactive experiences using [https://swagger.io/tools/swagger-ui/ SwaggerUI], where API users will be able to test the endpoints inline with the documentation, all without additional overhead from the Wikimedia teams creating and managing the APIs.

== History ==

The Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited (or named Krungsri) officially opened its doors on April 1, 1945 and located on Talad Hua Ro Road, Hua Ro Sub-district, Krung Kao District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. The Bank later opened its Bangkok office on Ratchawong Road, opposite the corner of Songwad Road, right at the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant business district at the time.

The Bank’s 25th anniversary in 1970 was marked with very auspicious event as the Bank was granted the royal warrant of appointment permitting the Bank to auspiciously display the Royal Garuda Emblem at the Head Office, thanks to the public’s trust in the Bank.

The Bank subsequently relocated its Head Office to a new building on Ploenchit Road. The new Head Office was considered one of the most modern office buildings in Asia at the time. The Bank found immediate public favor, grew rapidly, and listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on September 26, 1977.

In 1993, the Bank became a public company, and four year later was relocated to a new 36-story Head Office on Rama III Road.

In January 2007, Krungsri and GE Money, a global consumer financial services firm, have successfully become strategic partners, reflecting GE's commitment and confidence in Krungsri. The goal is to leverage the synergy of the two organizations enabling Krungsri to become a leading universal bank in Thailand.

In September 2012, GE Group informed the Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it sold Krungsri’s 461,635,000 ordinary shares held by GECIH or amounting to 7.60 percent of all issued shares (6,074,143,747 ordinary shares) through private placement in SET. Consequently, GECIH held 1,538,365,000 ordinary shares or amounting to 25.33 percent of all issued shares (6,074,143,747 ordinary shares).

In 2013, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU), which is wholly owned by the Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG), Japan’s largest financial group and one of the world’s largest, made a voluntary tender offer (VTO) for all of Krungsri’s 6,074,143,747 ordinary shares at 39 baht per share. The purchase period ran from November 7 to December 13, 2013 (only business days), and GECIH sold Krungsri’s 1,538,365,000 ordinary shares, or 25.33 percent of all issued shares, under the same VTO arrangement (at

the tender offer price), to MUFG Bank.

Then on December 18, 2013, Krungsri was informed by MUFG Bank that the shareholders (including GECIH) had expressed their intention to sell their 4,373,714,120 shares in Krungsri, representing 72.01 percent of total issued shares, to MUFG Bank. As a result, MUFG Bank became Krungsri’s major shareholder.

In September 2017, Krungsri was recognized as “A Domestic Systemically Important Bank (D-SIB)” by the Bank of Thailand, playing a key role in driving the country’s economic engines and financial system.

* In March 2012, Krungsri completed the acquisition of HSBC Thailand's retail banking businesses, including credit cards, personal loans, mortgages, and deposits with an estimated consideration of 3.6 billion baht. As a result of the transaction, Krugnsri Group's assets grew by roughly 17.5 billion baht or 1.8 percent, increasing retail loans from 45 to 46 percent of total loans.{{Citation needed|date=March 2016}}

* On 5 January 2015, the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. (BTMU) Bangkok Branch was successfully integrated into Krungsri, in accordance with the One Presence Policy of the Bank of Thailand. Krungsri issued 1,281,618,026 ordinary shares to BTMU for the transfer of the business of BTMU Bangkok Branch.{{Citation needed|date=March 2016}}

* 22 April 2015 Krungsri opened a representative office in Yangon, Myanmar, with an aim to support Krungsri's corporate and SME clients in capturing business opportunities in the country.

* 13 September 2016 Krungsri acquired [[Hattha Kaksekar]] Limited (HKL), a leading [[microfinance]] in Cambodia, with becoming a Krungsri Group subsidiary. 

* 27 March 2017 Krungsri set up new subsidiary, Krunsri Finnovate Company Limited, Venture Capital business under the regulatory and investment guideline set up by the Bank of Thailand.

* 27 September 2017 Krungsri was recognized as a domestic systemically important bank (D-SIB) by the Bank of Thailand - assessing not only our size but also our interconnectedness and the role Krungsri plays in contributing to financial sector stability and development as well as economic growth for Thailand.

* In August 2020, Hattha Kaksekar Limited, Krungsri’s wholly-owned leading deposit-taking microfinance institution in Cambodia, successfully obtained regulatory approvals to operate as a commercial bank under the name Hattha Bank Plc.

* In October 2020, Krungsri successfully acquired 50% stake in SB Finance, Inc. operating consumer finance business in the Philippines.

* In March 2023, Krungsri successfully acquired Capital Nomura Securities PCL. (CNS) and has been rebranded as Krungsri Capital Securities PCL. (KCS).

* In May 2023, Krungsri successfully acquired 50% charter capital in SHBank Finance Company Limited (SHB Finance) in Vietnam.

* In June 2023, Krungsri successfully acquired Home Credit in the Philippines, which are 1) HC Consumer Finance Philippines, Inc. (HCPH), 2) HCPH Financing 1, Inc. (HCPH1), 3) HCPH Insurance Brokerage, Inc. (HCPHI)
